Bone broth powder offers a convenient way to enjoy a warming, savoury broth and add collagen-derived protein to your diet. Its nutritional content depends on the product and serving size, but bone broth can supply amino acids such as glycine, proline and hydroxyproline—the building blocks associated with collagen.
For us at Dr Gus Nutrition, though, the benefits aren’t only about nutrition. They’re also about flavour, a comforting daily routine, and food made with care.
Bone broth is made by slowly cooking bones and connective tissue in water. Cooking converts collagen into gelatin, and digestion breaks these proteins down further into amino acids and smaller peptides. Some collagen-derived peptides can be absorbed into the bloodstream; it isn’t simply a case of every peptide being broken down into individual amino acids.
That makes collagen nutrition more interesting than a simple “building blocks” explanation. However, studies using particular hydrolysed collagen preparations don’t establish that every bone broth delivers the same quantities or produces the same effects. The recipe, concentration and serving size matter.
Bone broth can contribute to your protein intake, but collagen isn’t a complete protein. It works alongside a varied diet rather than replacing other protein foods such as eggs, fish, meat, dairy or soya. When comparing powders, check the protein per serving—not just the percentage of protein in the dry powder.
My own relationship with bone broth began in 2012, after microfracture surgery on my knee. My wife, Jung Eun, started making broth for me, and I had it three times a day during my recovery.
My knee healed well. Afterwards, I continued drinking the broth because I noticed other changes: my reflux issues eased, I felt more relaxed, and people started complimenting my skin.

Those are my personal experiences, not a promise that everyone will experience the same results. Research on bone broth itself remains limited, particularly when it comes to claims about improving digestion, skin or joint health.
But that experience explains why broth became part of my life—and eventually our business.
The name “bone broth” can put people off before they’ve even tasted it. I sometimes think that if we simply called it soup, people would approach it differently.
Our Beef & Vegetable broth is a delicious, light broth: warming, with lovely, rounded flavours. Jung Eun is a great cook, and we’ve spent a lot of time developing it through trial and error, drawing on traditional Korean techniques.
We make it low and slow, without excessive heat. Our aim is a traditionally well-made broth that people want to drink—not something they feel they have to force down.
I usually have mine later in the day, with or after a meal. That’s my routine, rather than a rule about when anyone else should drink it.
Preparing bone broth from scratch takes time because it involves a long simmer. A powder offers a way to fit broth into everyday life without making a fresh batch each time.

It’s worth distinguishing bone broth powder from an isolated collagen supplement, though. They aren’t automatically interchangeable: their ingredients, protein content and intended uses can differ. Look at what the product actually contains and how much you get in the recommended serving.
When we realised in 2017 that this could become a business, our priorities were straightforward: high-quality food, delicious flavour and local sourcing.
We work with local farms because we want to support both good food and the local economy. Jung Eun’s cooking and our relationships with suppliers are central to what we do.
Our ambition hasn’t changed much. We want to keep serving our community, supporting local businesses and helping local farms thrive.
The clearest benefits of bone broth powder are practical and nutritional: a convenient savoury drink and a contribution of collagen-derived protein, with the amount depending on the product. Claims about specific health improvements need more care; promising supplement research isn’t proof that every broth will deliver the same outcome.
Don’t let the name decide for you. Try it for the flavour, see whether you enjoy it, and make it part of your routine if it suits you. Explore our bone broth powders to find your favourite.
